Jonathan Ah Kit - Biography

I'm a student at Whitireia Community Polytechnic, Porirua and am involved with the Internet in my capacity as both a private user and as a trainee journalist.

I have been caught up with the Internet since 1994 when I found it as a tool for my scattered family. Later in early 1996, I put Wellington's largest secondary school on the WWW, being its webmaster for lengthy periods (as requested) and photographer until I graduated last year.

I consider that I'd bring a few experiences to a council table, from that of a student, home user, amateur researcher, lateral thinker, and someone familiar with issues on the primary ISOCNZ mailing lists. Aware as I am of my age and the limits of my experience, I believe that I can see a different and needed angle from that knowledge, complementing other council members.

Things I'd like to see:

  • A 'doing' attitude, with sensibly thought solutions.
  • An SRS in bright flashing lights saying 'implemented' with a registry that adults, children and dogs can trust. It doesn't need another year.
  • Awareness: an ISOCNZ that the general public is more aware of through both print and broadcast media. We need to involve more in the open with the public of issues we're concerned with. Where are we now with members of the public?
  • Public policy on issues that affect the country around us. Advocate to the public that all of NZ needs reasonable levels of access to the Internet, especially dialup quality, and believe that NZ needs another backbone alongside farming.
  • Membership: the building up of the democratic process and member involvement, so even the individual member of ISOCNZ knows not only that they are being taken into account where it is possible. Finding new ways or boosting current or past methods of communication with members.

I'd love to work with a team to bring forward all the issues that need to be raised and bring a sensible 'doing' solution to them all. I'm a pretty open person who will be happy to engage in good discussions over all ISOCNZ issues with everyone.
